NSCDC, SWAN to unite Niger youths via sports

The Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State command, Haruna Bala Zurmi, has appealed to Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) to partner with NSCDC to organize friendly football matches or other sporting events among the youths in the state to promote peace and unity among them.
He made the plea when the Chairman of SWAN, Niger State chapter, led other members of the executive on a courtesy visit.
The commandant, who spoke through the Deputy Commandant, Idris Danjuma, who is a former footballer, said that the usefulness and power of sports as a tool for building bridges of understanding and promotion of peace could not be overemphasised.
While appreciating SWAN for the visit and commitments to the cause of promoting peaceful coexistence through sports, the commandant assured of the preparedness of the Command to deploy alternative peace building mechanism which sports could serve as a bridge to ending gangsterism, holiganism and cult rivalries among youths in Minna metropolis.
Niger State SWAN Chairman, Mr. George Daniya, had told the NSCDC Commandant that they were in his office to seek for oportunities with key stakeholders in sports and using same as a veritable tool for the promotion of peaceful co-existence among citizens.
