Civil rights activist and former senator representing Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani, has raised the alarm that bandits were now collecting Value Added Tax (VAT), installing Imams and local chiefs in the North-West Nigeria.

The former senator, who expressed the fears in his twitter page. @ShehuSusa, warned  that bandits would soon take over power in Nigeria as Taliban forces installed themselves in Afghanistan.

He was reacting to the nefarious activities of the bandits in the North-West, which he said the government of Nigeria was not doing enough to stop.

There had been claims by some Northeners that bandits now collect VAT from farmers and install imams in some communities especially in Sokoto and Katsina states.

Though the police had since dismissed the claims, yet residents of the areas are complaining daily.
