A socio-cultural group, Ondo Progressives Movement (OPM), has raised alarm over the ongoing distribution of the sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Ondo State by Erelu Bisi Fayemi, the wife of the governor.

It advised the girls, especially those in Ifedore Local Government Area of the state, to reject the gift.

The OPM, which raised the alarm on Sunday, said that the sanitary pads could have spiritual motives that might not be unconnected to the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State and her husband’s presidential ambition.

The group’s Spokesperson, Comrade Olamide Adeyemi, alleged that the distribution of sanitary pads, especially to schoolgirls by a governor’s wife, who holds spiritual title of Erelu is suspicious.

Fayemi’s wife at Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday, distributed sanitary pads among women and ladies within puberty age, claiming it was meant to prevent the spread of infections.

However, the OPM asked why a governor’s wife would choose to distribute sanitary pads to schoolgirls, most of whom are virgins at a time of economic hardship instead of providing foods.

OPM pointed out that it was not against politicians rendering help to the people of the state, especially schoolgirls, but would not allow the future of the people to be jeopardized through “diabolical gifts” like sanitary pads.

It said that Yoruba people were aware of what mensuration could be used for spiritually and as such, would not sit back and allow desperate politicians to use the schoolgirls to advance their ambitions.

The group further stated that if Erelu Bisi Fayemi was genuinely desirous of helping the people, especially the schoolgirls, she should empower them.
