NGO empowers 30 women via skills acquisition in Bauchi

Attah Sisters Helping Hand Foundation (ASHHF), a non-profit organization funded by Safer Water, has empowered 30 women in Bauchi metropolis through training on fashion design, tailoring and make-up to enable them  set up their own businesses.

ASHHF on Monday held a workshop for the women to equip them with entrepreneurship skills.

The training formed part of the foundation’s objective of building the capacity of women and equipping them with entrepreneurial skills to improve their standard of living.

ASHHF Project Officer, Mr. Sule Onuche, expressed satisfaction with the programme and pointed out that the participants had been impacted with enough knowledge and skill to improve their lives.

He said that 15 women were trained on fashion design and tailoring at Anguwan Gas, while 15 women were trained on make-up at Sabon Kaura suburbs of Bauchi metropolis.

“We trained them on fashion design and tailoring as well as make-up. They are well resourced in this and I believe it will help them become self-reliant and improve their lives.

“We are looking at a better community and improving the standard of living. We want to have more job opportunities and less teenage pregnancies,” Onuche said

He disclosed that the participants were also equipped with knowledge in entrepreneurship.

Some of the trainees who spoke to our correspondent  were grateful for the opportunity, noting that they had been blessed with skills that would help them establish their own businesses.

Hannatu Iliya said “I have learnt a lot from this. It will help us design, make clothes to sell and get something to take care of our families.

“They have helped us in various ways and it has really helped. I believe it will help me and my family.

“It’s a nice event and I want to thank the foundation. Not everyone will do this for you. So I took it seriously. I have learnt a lot that I believe will be better,” she said.
