Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has urged citizens to engage in regular exercise and physical fitness to enhance their good health and fitness.
Mohammed made the call at the 2021 Grand Road Walk organised by the Coalition of Physical Fitness clubs on Saturday in Bauchi.
Represented by the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman, the governor urged citizens in the state to embark on regular exercise and physical fitness.
“Try to find the time for some regular, vigorous exercise for extra health and fitness benefits.
“Minimize the amount of time spent in prolonged sitting and break up long periods of sitting as often as possible,” he said.
The governor pledged that the state government would support the clubs in organising the annual grand walk in the state.
The Chairman of the Coalition of Physical Fitness Clubs in the state, Alhaji Ali Garu, expressed satisfaction with this year’s grand road walk, saying it was successful and the aim was achieved.
He said that the grand road walk started in 2019 and then 2020. “The 2021 walk was a success that attracted a lot of support and visitors from the neighbouring states of Gombe and Plateau,” he said.
Garu explained that physical activity or exercise could improve ones health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases as well as unity.
