Nigerian Super Eagles have qualified for the Round of 16 at the ongoing 2021 African Nations Cup (AFCON) by defeating Sudan 3-1 at Garua, Cameroon on Saturday January 15, 2022.

The Super Eagles, in Group D of the tournament, join Morocco and Cameroon to reach the Round of 16 after winning two matches each in their various groups.

Samuel Chukwueze opened scoring for Nigeria in the second minute of the match, with assistance from Moses Simon, while Taiwo Awoniyi made it double two minutes to the end of the first half of the game.

The Super Eagles resumed in the second half, with the same vigour they started the first half, which paid off in the 47th minute with a goal from the Man-of-the-match, Moses Simon.

The consolation goal came for Sudan, when Ola Ayina pulled down a Sudanese player in the 18 yard box of the Super Eagles. The resultant penalty was converted by Sudan in the 86th minute of the match.
