NACCIMA supports govt’s decision on petroleum subsidy removal

The National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has commended the Nigerian government for suspending the proposed petroleum subsidy removal.
In a statement issued by the Director General, Amb. Ayo Olukanni, NACCIMA stated that the shift in date would enable the government, the private sector and the labour to scrutinize the issue properly before agreeing on an appropriate palliative measure.
It pointed out that 2022 was preceeding the election year and therefore needed not to be overheated by unpopular government policies.
It also warned the government against decisions that would negatively affect business in Nigeria.
It stated: “We need a peaceful Nigeria for businesses to thrive, and and attract foreign investment. The decision to temporise on subsidy removal, such as contemplated by government deserves support.
“We hope this step will give the required time for extensive and wide consultation.
Government is therefore encouraged to widen consultations on the issue and work out an implementation plan which will fully reflect input from the widest range of stakeholders and acceptable to all.”
