Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has appointed new management of Ebonyi State University to pilot the affairs of the institution in the next one year. He made the new appointment on Monday.
The governor also sacked the entire management of Ebonyi State College of Education management over administrative lapses witnessed in the college recently.
Besides, the governor has ordered for the composition of a new interim management to pilot the affairs of the college pending the outcome of investigative panel set-up to look into the matter.
This is part of the outcome of Wednesday’s executive council meeting held at new Government House, Abakaliki.
The new management of Ebonyi State University was sworn in to pilot the affairs of the university for the next 12 months.
The new management has Professor Chigozie Ogbu as the vice-chancellor; Professor Eugene Nweke as the deputy vice-chancellor – Academics; Mr. Jeremiah Nwangbo as registrar; Mr. Anthony Isu – bursar; Mrs. Victoria Nwali – librarian; and Professor Happiness Oselebe – deputy vice-chancellor – Administration.
Meanwhile, Governor Umahi has congratulated the new management, on the appointment and inauguration, urging them to redouble their efforts for the overall development of theu.
“Let me on behalf of the government congratulate Professor Ogbu and his team, three people in the old management had been dropped and three had been retained.
“Ebonyi State University came first in the rating of State Universities in the South East, so it is something to commend them and for Ebonyi people to know them. Ebonyi State University came second in the rating of the entire universities in the South East, only the University of Nigeria Nsukka came ahead of them.
“We are committed to making the university rank among the best five in the country and we are committed to doing that.”
The state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Cletus Ofoke, had said that the inauguration was following the expiration of the tenure of office of the management of the university, which was done in line with the Law establishing the institution.
In an acceptance speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, appreciated the governor for the opportunity to serve in that capacity and also pledged that they would bring their experience to bear in the overall development of the university and Ebonyi State at large.
Recall that last week, the Provost of the college, Registrar and others were suspended indefinitely over misconduct in recruitment processes.
