Ukraine under Russian bombardment

The Russian military has invaded Ukraine with heavy bombardment.

The Russian forces began a major military assault on Ukraine on Thursday morning, with missile strikes and explosions in major cities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, while confirming the attack, warned that Moscow’s response would be “instant” if anyone tried to take on Russia.

He however advised Ukrainian soldiers in eastern Ukraine to lay down weapons and return to their homes.

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, in a swift response, said that military installations around the country were under attack, while declaring martial law.

He further disclosed that he’d spoken to President Joe Biden of the US on the issue.

“Stay calm, stay at home, the army is doing its work,” he urged Ukrainians.

Also, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted that a “full-scale invasion” was now underway: “Peaceful Ukrainian cities are under strikes. This is a war of aggression. Ukraine will defend itself and will win. The world can and must stop Putin. The time to act is now.”

Besides, Kuleba appealed to the United Nations (UN) “to do everything possible” to stop Russia.

Recall that the US President Joe Biden vowed that the world would hold Russia accountable, predicting major loss of life, while the European Union (EU) said that Putin has brought war back to Europe and is preparing a “massive” package of sanctions.
