No fewer than two people are feared dead, when gunmen struck four police stations in Anambra State on Friday April 1, 2022.

The Police stations include Amichi, Nnewichi, Osumoghu and Ezinifite in Nnewi North and Nnewi South local government areas.

The attack came 24 hours after the Police station in Ukpor Nnewi South council was raided by unknown gunmen.

It is however not clear at press time, which of the Police stations the two persons died. It was however confirmed that the number of casualties could be more than 18.

Anambra State Police command  Public Relations Officer DSP Toochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident but could not confirm the number of deaths and casualties.

Ikenga said that there was no casualty and that a team of police  personnel had been drafted to the area to ensure calm.

He said that the hoodlum did not only attack Nnewiechi police but also attacked Osumoghu and Ezenifite police stations.

He also pointed out that the police state stations were under reconstruction since they were among the stations  affected during EndSARS saga.

According to him, after the EndSARS saga all the police men in the state police stations  were moved to Area Command and there were no police men there.

“After the EndSARS incident, the communities started reconstruction of those stations and they have not finished them. By the time of the attack there were no policemen there.

“I wondered why somebody would attacked them,” he said.

He said that normalcy had been restored and urged residents in the area with useful information to make them available to police to enable the command deal with those responsible for the insecurity of the area.
