Ebonyi monarch honours journalist with chieftaincy title

By Valentine Amanze

The monarch of Umunna autonomous community in Ebonyi State, HRH Dickson Obo Okorie  Osisioma 1V of Umunna, has honoured a journalist, Mr. Felix Uka, with a chieftaincy title in commemoration of his contribution to the development of his kingdom and state.

The vetran journalist was honoured along with other prominent citizens of Ebonyi State.

The Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, who was represented at the event held at Umunna Comprehensive Secondary School  Ogwuma Edda,  Afikpo South council, by the Afikpo South council Chairman,   Mr. Eni Uduma Chima, commended the leadership of the community for peaceful coexistence and the award of honour to persons of integrity.

He pointed out that such award to veteran Journalist Felix Uka was well deserved.

Felix Ikechi Uka is a graduate of  Mass Communication. Though a native of Amumara in Ezinihitte Local Government Area of Imo State of Nigeria, he was born in Umuome in Ezza North Local Government Area of the present day Ebonyi State where his parents lived as school Teacher and Headmaster.

Uka, fondly called Ozo Igbo Ndu for his “small small” philanthropy has been State Correspondent of several National Newspapers in six states across Nigeria.

He was Business Editor of National Post Newspapers, Owerri Imo State but currently the State Correspondent of Daily Independent Newspapers, Ebonyi State.

He is a prolific writer. So interesting was his first book: Anambra Political Crises…Eyewitness Account, that late literary icon Professor Chinua Achebe quoted extensively from it in his last book, There was a country on page 318 of the classics,  Achebe’s personal history of Biafra.

As part of his contributions  to the presentation of the true picture of Ebonyi State and its advancement,   Uka’s second book, The Ebonyi I know… a Journalist’s Account, is an x-ray of the Ebonyi history of marginalisation and walk to liberation.

Further to that, he veered into music and produced a musical album he called, “Ebonyi Nwere Madu.”

Uka’s third book with the title, BEHIND THE MANDATE, is an anecdote of political experiments of 2015 and the eventual triumph of the Ebonyi people’s resolutness to re-write their history.  A chapter in the book is about: The Igbo kind of Politics.

Felix Uka has been a two- time Member Governing Board of Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC), Secretary Ebonyi State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists  (NUJ)  currently, Ex- Officio Member of the Council; Fellow Institute of Administration.

He is blessed with a good wife and four children.
