Oboama community mourns, seeks justice for murder of youth in Itu

Oboama community in Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo State, has condemned the killing of one of its youths, Mr Chimezie Osuagwu, at Itu, the Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area headquarter, on Tuesday.

Osuagwu from Umuofor Umuatum Oboama was stabbed to death by a young man from Itu (names withheld) when he was hired by an Itu indigene to harvest palm fruit (Iwu nkwu) in Itu.

The Vice President General, Oboama Development Union (ODU), Engr Anyanwu Onyewuchi J, disclosed this in a statement on Tueasday, while calling for justice and appealing to the Oboama community to remain calm.

He also disclosed that the suspect had handed himself to the police, who had already taken him to Owerri for justice.

While it is not yet clear what caused the feud, Onyewuchi appreciated the swift response by Oboama youths led by their President, Mr Uzochukwu Nwachukwu, and Mr Charly Nwaru, the ODU provost.

His words: “It has come to the  notice of the President General and the entire ODU EXCO that a youth of Oboama, Mr. Chimezie Osuagwu, from Umuofor Umuatum, was stabbed to death this morning [Tuesday] at  Itu by a young man from Itu when he went for Iwu Nkwu.

“He has handed himself over to the police and was quickly transferred to Owerri.

“I wish to appreciate the swift response by our youths led by the youth president, Mr Uzochukwu Nwachukwu, and Mr Charly Nwaru, ODU Provost.

“The president general has urged all to remain calm as the culprit will be made to face the full weight of the law.

“May the soul of Mr Chimezie Osuagwu rest in peace. AMEN.”
