AE-FUNAI medical officials protest killing of member in Ebonyi

Members of Medical Laboratory Scientists Association, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, have staged a peaceful protest over the murder of one of the their colleagues, Mr. Ani Afamefuna Casmia, on Friday night in Abakaliki.
They also appealed to the security agencies to arrest and prosecute all those involved in the incident.
The peaceful protest, which kicked off around 11:30am on Tuesday June 23, 2022 at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital from where they moved to Ebonyi State Police Command, witnessed large number of placard-carrying medical scientists with various inscriptions such as“Police must Apprehend the Culprits of this Dastard Act”, “This senseless killings must Stop”, “Justice for Casmia” among others.
While presenting their grievances to the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State command, the State Publicity Secretary of the union, Mr. Obiefuna Okeke, said that their mission was to register their grievances over the murder of one of their colleagues, Mr. Ani Afamefuna Casmia, on Friday night June 10, 2022, at Ojeowere Street Abakaliki.
He called on the police to unravel, arrest and prosecute those behind the dastardly act.
He lamented that the young man, who was killed, have four children including a new born baby, stressing that his family had been exposed to face difficult times.
“We are here in your command to make a presentation in respect of the gruesome murder of one of our colleagues, Mr. Ani Afamefuna Casmia in the early hours of Saturday,10th of June 2022.
“We got to know about it when we were called to come and identify one of us in mortuary and when we came, what we saw was a pitiable site.
“We are here because our hope lies on the law-enforcement agencies more especially the police to unravel those behind the incident and let us know what they offence is that led to such gruesome killing.
“We want to make a request that the police should help us because this young man has a family and four children including the little one that was born few weeks ago, who will never see their father again.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, CP Garba Aliyu, reassured the protesters of police readiness to ensure that all those behind the evil act were brought to book.
The Commissioner of Police, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in incharge of State Criminal Investigation Department, Mr.
Robot Clement, further stated that the command was already on top of the matter to arrest the culprits.
He therefore urged them to corporate with the police by feeding them with necessary information that will help track down the perpetrators.
“We are aware of that matter and we are on it and we will do everything to ensure that all those that involved are brought to book for justice but we need your corporation and your assistance because we can’t do it alone. And by the grace of God, we shall get to the root cause of the matter.”
