How fire destroyed goods worth millions of naira in Ebonyi market

Fire has razed down Eke-Ukwu market in Afikpo North Local Government Area in Ebonyi State and destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira.
The tragedy, which struck in the late hours of Tuesday July 12, 2022, razed down completely a section of the very popular market; but no lives were lost.
Thought the cause of the fire incident was not known, some traders made frantic efforts to quench it to save their goods but couldn’t succeed because of its intensity.
Nigeria News Flight gathered that the Fire Service in Afikpo did not respond on time to quench the raging inferno because its equipment were not functioning properly.
The Council boss, Mrs. Oby Oko Enyim, who arrived at the scene of the incident to ascertain the level of damages, sympathized with the victims and assured them of government readiness to assist them.
Also ,the Chairman of Afikpo Market Traders Association (AMATA), Omezue Johnson Inya Oka, described the incident as pathetic and called on government to ensure that similar incident didn’t occur again by putting some fire fighting equipment and facilities that would protect the market from disaster.
