We are not aware of his qualification \u2013 mgt<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n By Nweze Anaga,<\/p>\n\n\n\n Abakaliki<\/p>\n\n\n\n Enyi Paul Onyebuchi is a man of ambition. As a child, he embraced Western education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While his contemporaries were hawking goods on the streets of Abakaliki, Onyebuchi decided to further his studies, while also working as a cleaner in Ebonyi State University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The young man from Izzi council of Ebonyi State who now holds Ph.D in Mathmatics still works in Ebonyi State University as a cleaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The 45-year-old man, who acknowledged that he started working with Ebonyi State University as a cleaner in 2007, narrated his plight to our correspondent in Abakaliki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He said that over the years, he got approval from the university to further his studies which gave him an avenue to study and have his first Degree, M.Sc and Ph.D in the year 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He however lamented that since then he had been working as a cleaner up till date, and had presented his original certificates to school management several times for conversion, but all to no avail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He called on the government of Ebonyi State and Nigerians to interven and place him accordingly in the university to avoid his Ph.d certificate becoming a waste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI am Dr. Enyi Paul Onyebuchi, a staff of Ebonyi State University. I was employed as a cleaner. I was younger when I was employed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI was employed as a cleaner because of the condition of things; but decided within me that I will not remain like that till I retire, which made me to further my education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe wrote exam for conversion and they played game with it. They said that some of us failed; but when some dignitaries intervened and asked them to provide the answer script, they refused to bring it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThey also refused to give us our real mark. They played political game with the issue. Up till now, there is nothing like conversion. There is respect and dignity attached to having Ph.D but unfortunately it looks as if I wasted the money I would have used for another thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI got my Ph.D in 2022; I did my final defence in November 3, 2022. I am in the hands of God; whatever they want to do, let them do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI dropped the certificate and started hustling; one must not feed only in education. If government feels like placing me where I am supposed to be, it’s good. But if they refuse, I can’t kill myself. I will continue to hustle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMy expectation from government is to place me in rightful place. I think it is high time the gave me what belongs to me. I am supposed to be a lecturer not a cleaner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cEven my HOD wrote, recommending me for conversion but reaching Vice Chancellor’s office, it was ignored. All my original certificates, including the Ph.D were attached and submitted, but it was a game of who knows who. I am just praying to God; it\u2019s left for Him to do His own,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of Ebonyi State University, Mr. Patrick Itumo, expressed surprise over the issue, saying that it has not been long the university concluded everything about conversion, and many people applied for it but he doesn’t know wether Dr. Enyi applied for it, or why he didn’t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He urged him to write to the University Registrar or the Vice Chancellor to register his grievances, pledging to look into the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Also read: Why we chased EBSU student to death, by Police<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/nigerianewsflight.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/EBSU-13.jpg\")
