With defensive frailty, which denied it the UEFA Europa League semi-final ticket at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on April 20, 2023 in Seville, Spain, Manchester United FC is set for a remedy.
The Premier League club is said to have prioritised the acquisition of the Nigerian-born England international defender, Fikayo Tomori, from AC Milan to replace Captain Harry Maguire, whose poor form has affected the club negatively.
Maguire joined the Red Devils as the most expensive defender of all time when he moved from Leicester City. Soon after, he became Manchester United club captain and has been a regular for England since – despite limited minutes under Erik ten Hag.
Daily Mail, which broke the news, further disclosed that Tomori has impressed since moving to Serie A.
Daily Mail also disclosed that Tomori has the kind of recovery pace that Maguire lacks, stressing that the Serie A defender is comfortable on both feet and on both sides of a defensive pairing.
It is ironical however that the England international has controversially seen his game time under Gareth Southgate limited, too, as the Three Lions manager opts for Maguire – out-of-favour at club level – over the rock of a Serie A title win last season.

Manchester United is said to be aware that it would take a huge offer to separate Tomori from Milan.
Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the Chelsea former defender – who was also eligible to represent Canada internationally.
The good news for interested parties at least is that Chelsea haven’t inserted a buyback clause, according to Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old is valued at €45 million by Transfermarkt.
