Nigeria’s immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari reduced the standards and quality of leadership in the country, says the Northern Elders Forum (NEF).

The group’s spokesman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, disclosed this Monday morning in a radio programme of Lagos-based Ray Power, while reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s June 12 Democracy Day broadcast.

The group also appealed to Tinubu not to toe the line of Buhari’s leadership, which it said brought hardship to Nigerians.

While calling on Tinubu to embrace “real democratic principles,” NEF reminded him that his predecessor was not a democrat, urging him to raise the standards and quality of leadership in Nigeria.

Besides, the northern group lamented that the Buhari’s administration did not allow Nigerians to have the leadership they desired, stressing that under him, politicians brought tribalism and religious sentiments to derail the popular will of Nigerians.

NEF also called for the study of History in Nigeria to enable the younger ones know what really happened and how to better the future of Nigeria. valoa2000@yahoo.com
