The Vice Chancellor of David Nweze Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State, Prof Jesse Uneke, said that the mission of the school was to serve with the highest form of professionalism, ethics and excellence by training highly qualified health professionals who will improve health conditions, alleviate sickness, suffering and pains through the provision of high quality, efficient, cost effective and integrated health services.
He also explained that the vision was to become a formost International University reputable for learning, innovation, research, and collaboration where the highest form of quality manpower development for the health and other related sectors will be achieved.
Uneke, who disclosed this, while presenting his address during the second Matriculation of the University at Uburu, also pledged to achieve reversal of Medical and Education Tourism in Nigeria by training highly qualified health professionals, who will work to improve health conditions.
He said that on July 7, 2021, the university was issued certificate of recognition and subsequent approval by the National University Commission (NUC), while on May 5, 2022, during the visit of the former President Muhammadu Buhari for the commissioning, the university was formerly taking over by Federal Government as announced by the president and renamed David Nweze Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State. “I heartly welcome you to this all important and epoch-making Matriculation. It will be recalled on 7th of July,2021, the university was issued with a certificate of recognition and approval by the National University Commission. On the 21st of October 2021, the NUC approved a total of six faculties with 19 Departments to run 17 programmes including Medicine and Surgery, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing science, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Biomedical science, Radiography and Radiation science, Optometry, Microbiology/ Paracitology, Public Health, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Computer Science, Industrial Physics, Industrial Chemistry, Industrial Mathematics, and Biology and Biotechnology.”
