Don donates N1m  for Okpara’s lecture series

A cerebral lecturer at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Dr Philips Nto, has donated one million Naira to the institution for the sustenance of the newly introduced Okpara Lecture Series.

He also dedicated the MOUAU ambassador award given to him by the institution to a former outstanding Governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji (Ochendo Global), and his parents.

At a reception organised in his honour at Umuahia, Nto, who is the immediate past Provost of Abia State College of Education, Technical, Arochukwu, ASCETA, explained that the donation was in appreciation of the university’s management efforts to further immortalize Okpara through the lecture series.

Nto said that he was satisfied with the first class organization of the inaugural lecture and the brilliant interrogation of the topic by the guest lecturer and Governor of Anambra state, Prof Charles Soludo.

Nto, a former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, disclosed that he dedicated the award to his boss, Senator Orji aka Ochendo, whom he said “discovered and nurtured me to whatever I am today.

“Ochendo Global gave me the first break in life by making me a Commissioner through his sheer belief that I can serve. That’s why I will ever remain indebted to him.”

Nto, also a former World Bank consultant, said that he was also grateful to his parents, who, as teachers, instilled discipline and virtues of hard work and honesty in him.

He commended the Vice Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof Maduebibisi Iwe, for the award and promised to continue to serve the institution faithfully.

In his remarks, another former  commissioner in the state, Engr Emma Nwabuko,  who represented  Senator Orji, commended Dr Nto for his loyalty to Ochendo Global, and described him as an asset to Abia State and Nigeria.

Also, a former Secretary to Abia State Government, Mazi Donatus Okorie, said that the people of Arochukwu Local Government Area were in a celebratory mood because of the award received by Dr Philips Nto.
