Ebonyi governor, Nwifuru, prioritises welfare of the elderly

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has assured that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of the elderly people and widows in the state in line with his social contract.

Nwifuru gave the assuranceat the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakalikii, during the Elders and Widows Party organised at his instance at the weekend.

 The governor explained that the essence of the People’s Charter of Needs was to ensure an effective target mechanism that will eliminate leakages in the course of reaching out to the socio-economically disadvantaged.

He also assured that his government would continue to honour the elderly and widows

“We understand that when we honour our parents, God will honour us”, he said.

Besides, Nwifuru acknowledged the current economic realities and their attendant effects on the widows and elderly and pledged an upward review of their upkeep.

“Let me assure you that I am with you, I am for you and I will work for you.

“We have taken a review of your allowances which is why we reviewed it upward”, he said.
