Church service for Abakaliki church attack victims
The Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Bishop Nworie Chukwu, who confirmed the incident, said that several other parishioners were wounded

Tears flowed like flood after a heavy rain from relatives, parishioners and well-wishers as Mr. Cylil Obinna Mbam, Solomon Onyedikachi Alo, and Mathew Ebuka Nwifuru were laid to rest following the burial mass conducted by the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Bishop Nworie Chukwu, at Immaculate Catholic Church Ngwagu before taking them to their respective compounds for interment.
The three – a parishioner and two security men – were victims of the 2023 Christmas eve armed attack at Immaculate Catholic Church, Ngwagu Abakaliki in Ebonyi State.
Nigeria News Flight gathered that the killers specifically came for Mr. Cylil Obinna Mbam, who was inside the church but was invited out by the hoodlums before he was shot dead, while the two other victims, Solomon Onyedikachi Alo and Mathew Ebuka Nwifuru, were the church security men who came for his rescue but were killed in the process.
The Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Bishop Nworie Chukwu, who confirmed the incident, said that several other parishioners were wounded.

He described the incident as sad and disheartening and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls.
The bishop also urged the faithful to pray for unity and progress of Ebonyi State and Nigeria.
Sources from the late Cyril’s family confirmed that
that he was married with children while the other two young men were single.
Meanwhile, the cause of the attack has not been identified and those behind it are yet to be arrested.
Also, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Mrs Augustina Ogbodo, is yet to react on the incident as she did not respond to phone calls as at the time of the report.
