.Already on trial over N4b fraud

This is not the best of time for the embattled Anambra State immediate past governor, Willie Obiano, who is being quizzed by the anti-graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the state’s N4,008,573,350 he allegedly stole when he was governor.
Obiano is also said to be having sleepless nights on how to explain what happened to over N75 billion he inherited from his predecessor, Peter Obi.
A Lagos-based lawyer and political analyst, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, in a statement on Wednesday, lamented Obiano’s eight years as governor of Anambra State, describing the period as wastful.

Obienyem, in the statement to Nigeria News Flight, asked:
“What about the over N75 billion he inherited from his predecessor? What about the ecological funds he stole?
“What about the many roads he claimed to have paid for, yet nothing was done on those roads?
“EFCC should please be more diligent. I heard Obiano is lamenting that after bribing sundry persons with billions for the case to be killed, it is still continuing. It’s good news; thieves must be punished as a way of stopping aspiring thieves.”
Obiano was arraigned on a nine-count charge on Wednesday, January 24, before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, over alleged money laundering to the tune of N4,008,573,350.
The development came a week after the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, vowed to review all abandoned high-profile cases, especially those involving former Governors and Ministers.
Meanwhile, the book on how Obiano governed Anambra State, titled, “Anambra: From the Sublime to the Ridiculous,” is now on sale.
