The African Women Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Network (AWWASHNet) and the Environmental Rights Action (ERA) – Civil Soceity Organisations – have called on government across the globe to provide affordable and quality water to to the citizens.
The groups made the appeal, while commemorating this year’s World Water Day titled, “’Water for Peace.”
In their joint press statement, the groups pointed out that water is God’s free gift to humanity, which should not be commercialized or privatised.

AWWASHNet and ERA therefor called on the government not to commercialise or privatise water.
They also advised the government to ensure adequate provision of quality water, proper sanitation and sustainable supply to its citizens.
“Water is peaceful; water has no enemy.
“Water energizes, revives, refreshes, sustains both human, animals, economy and our environment,” the groups stated.
The World Water Day is celebrated annually on March 22 to create awareness on the billions of people living without access to quality water, clean sanitation and sustainable water use.
The World Water Day is action-minded event celebrated globally to tackle the water challenges the world is facing, Nigeria inclusive, and to support the activities of the sustainable development goals 6, which reiterates that safe water and clean sanitation be available for all by 2030.
