‘The Dig Once Policy is our blueprint for coordinated development by minimizing the number and scale of excavations when installing telecommunications infrastructure in public rights-of-way, utilising a cost-effective plan’

Abia State is set for technological growth and advancement, with the signing of the “Dig Once Policy”, which brings the state in line with the global and national broadband plan.
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, who signed the document in Umuahia, the state capital on Friday, disclosed the development in his X handle, @alexottiofr, on May 3, 2024.
Governor Otti also inaugurated the Implementation Council of the policy, headed by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu.
Otti explained that with the signing of the “Dig Once Policy” (DOP), Abia State had laid the foundation for a future of endless opportunities and potential in broadband high-speed internet and telecommunications services.
He pointed out that the initiative was the result of a strategic collaboration among the ministries of Digital Economy and SMEs, Science and Technology, and Works.

He described the project as a game-changer for the industrious youth, who would become the digital trailblazers of the future.
Otti assured that the DOP would unlock the potential of the Abia State youth by standardizing access to high-speed internet across the state, thereby fostering job creation, combating poverty, and enhancing the quality of life for all.
