Finidi George quits Super Eagles job
Osimhem: I asked Finidi George to allow me to stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother.

Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has exonerated himself of allegation of lack of commitment to Nigeria’s quest to qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
Osimhem said that he had always put in 100 per cent commitment playing for Nigeria even when injured, while urging Nigerians not to blame him for the Super Eagles’ woes.
The striker was responding to former Super Eagles coach Finidi George’s remarks questioning his commitment to Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Osimhen, who took to his Instagram page at the weekend, defended himself.
He said that Finidi George, lied and painted him black before Nigerians and his fans.

Osimhem revealed that he had discussions on his twisted ankle with George before the matches.
His words: “I asked Finidi George to allow me to stay with the players in the camp, but Finidi asked me not to bother, that I should stay with my family. Now, after two bad games, everybody is blaming me. I know how many injuries I’ve played with for Nigeria and I played my heart out, but after two bad games, everybody is attacking me.”
The 25-year-old Osimhen, who disclosed that he recoreded all his discussions with George, also expressed his disappointment and loss of respect for him.
“I have lost every respect I have for him,” Osimhen added, highlighting a significant rift within the Nigerian football community.

Meanwhile, Finidi Gearge, who was appointed head coach of the Super Eagles in April 29, 2024, resigned his appointment at the weekend.
The resignation came just days after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) announced plans to hire a foreign technical adviser.
The news of George’s resignation was confirmed by former Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, who took to his X account on Saturday to break the story.
Ibitoye’s post read: “News just in: Finidi George has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”
Recall that Finidi George succeeded Jose Peseiro, who took the Super Eagles to the final of African Nations, where they won silver in Cote d’Ivoire.
