The gunmen attacked the victims who were at the home of the president general of the Umucheke community

The Police command in Imo State has confirmed the gunmen attack, which claimed seven lives in Umucheke community, Okwe, in the Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State on Saturday night, August 3, 2024.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Danjuma Aboki,  made the confirmation via the Command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye.

Aboki described the incident as a very unfortunate one and that the command was saddened by the tragic incident.

He further disclosed that investigation had begun to unravel the miscreants responsible for the dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law.

Nigeria News Flight gathered that the gunmen attacked the victims at a meeting held at the home of the president general of the community who was also murdered.

Recall that last week, gunmen also ambushed and killed four policemen in the Irete community along Onitsha Road in Owerri, and also killed a businessman at Orji, close to Owerri, the Imo State capital.

According to sources, the gunmen attacked the policemen who were on stop-and-search duty in the area.

The attack is the latest in the spate of attacks against security agents and harmless residents by non-state actors in Imo State and the South-East geopolitical zone which has experienced scores of gunmen attacks in recent years.
