Ebonyi State has been hit by cholera, which already claimed no fewer than 10 lives in Ndibokote village of Ezza Inyimagu in Izzi Local Government Area, while others are receiving medication in hospitals in the state.
The 10 victims of the cholera outbreak, which was reported on Monday September 23, 2024, include a nursing mother who left behind a nine-month-old baby; men, other women and children.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, who confirmed the outbreak at Iziogo Health Centre on September 25, 2024, disclosed that about 10 deaths had been recorded, while about 20 affected persons were responding to treatment.
He said that the government was making efforts to bring the condition under control, while commending the Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for approving fund for the procurement of medical facilities for the outbreak.

Ekuma further disclosed that three treatment centres including Iziogo Health Centre, Sudan Mission, Onuenyim and Ndibokote village had been established in the area to fight the outbreak.
He advised the people to take precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
“Once you start having symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting or even any, you should rush to any of these emergency treatment centers,” he said.
