Troops of 3 Division-Operation Safe Haven of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered arms and ammunition in Plateau State at the weekend.
This is in a bid to ensure a secure and peaceful yuletide season in Nigeria.
The suspects – 31-year-old Kenneth Mayas and 60-year-old Bulus Yilfo – were arrested, while attempting to purchase an AK-47 rifle for ₦1,450,000 at White House Hotel in Bokkos Town, located in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State on December 20, 2024.
The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and have provided valuable information to aid further investigations and operations targeting other members of their criminal network, according to a statement issued by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Military Public Information Officer,
Operation Safe Haven.

It further disclosed that on December 18, 2024, troops under Operation Golden Peace recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, an AK-47 magazine, and a stockpile of ammunition during a raid on a criminal hideout near the Plateau-Taraba border.
It stated that efforts were ongoing to pursue and neutralize the fleeing suspects.
Major Samson Nantip Zhakom has however assured that the 3 Division-Operation Safe Haven remained steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout the yuletide season and beyond.
He appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and accurate intelligence to combat criminal activities effectively.
