Obi: Work for peace, unity of Nigeria

Labour Party (LP) leader and the 2023 Presidential flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi, has admonished the newly elected leadership of the Pan-Igbo organization –Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide led by Senator John Azuta Mbata – to work towards peace and unity of Nigeria.
Obi, who gave the advice on his X handle, @PeterObi, urged the new executive to leverage their position to strengthening the Igbo family, while also uniting the country.
His words: “On behalf of my family and the Obedient movement, I congratulate the newly elected President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Senator John Azuta-Mbata; the Deputy President General, Prince Okey Nwadinobi; the Secretary-General, Emeka Sibeudu, and other newly elected executive members on their emergence as the leaders of the noble organization.

“Their emergence as the leaders of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the umbrella body that unites the Igbo people, underscores the level of confidence and hope the people have in their leadership ability and their commitment to the development of the region and the nation in general.
“I pray that they will leverage their new offices to continue to work for the peace and unity of our nation and contribute immeasurably to ideas that will drive development, peace, and progress among the people.

“May God give you all, the wisdom and strength to serve the people. A New Nigeria remains Possible.”
Meanwhile, the LP has condemned incendiary remarks made by Mr. Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which threatened the life of Peter Obi, during his appearance on national television on January 5, 2025.
LP pointed out that Morka’s statements not only pose a direct threat to the life, reputation, and business interests of Mr. Peter Obi but also constitute an affront to the principles of democracy, decency, and responsible political engagement.
LP described Obi as a man of impeccable character, who has devoted his life to the service of Nigeria and the pursuit of good governance.
“He has consistently demonstrated that competence, merit, and respect for the rule of law should guide leadership. To attack him with baseless allegations and threats is an indication of the APC’s inability to engage constructively on the issues that matter to Nigerians.
“Such inflammatory rhetoric has no place in our democracy. It undermines national unity, discourages productive political discourse, and endangers lives,” LP stated.
The opposition party also reminded Morka and the APC leadership that words have consequences.
“The Labour Party will hold them accountable for any harm that befalls Mr. Peter Obi or his associates,” LP stated.
