Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has called for the introduction of Community Policing as a panacea for insecurity facing the  country.

The governor made the plea in Government House Abakaliki, when the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 9 Umuahia,  Suleman Yusuf, paid him courtesy call.

The governor attributed the peace and tranquility in the state to  the co-operation of the police.

“Community Policing is the best option in crime prevention. The reason is because you must first of all know the terrain before you act.

“Community policing is a kind of information giving. It is my duty to protect lives and properties.

“I want to congratulate you sincerely for your position,” the governor said.

He called on the Nigerian police to introduce a reward system that will encourage officers and men of the Force to carry out their duties more effectively.

His words: “We must at this point encourage performing officers by  rewarding those who put their lives on the line to protect lives and property of the citizens.

“I have personally  encouraged Officers who are performing creditably.”

Besides, the AIG had told the governor that the purpose of the visit was to interface with the  officers and men of the  command to enhance their operations.

“I am equally here to appreciate you for the support you have been given to the police in Ebonyi State to be able to perform excellently.

“Ebonyi State is most peaceful compared to  others in the Zone.

“I thank you for all you have been doing for the Officers and men in the Command.

“My plea is that other stakeholders should join us in Policing,” he said.

Yusuf assumed office as AIG Zone 9 on  December 3, 2024.
