Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has assured that political appointees, farmers, and herders would be enlisted in its Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) to ensure quality but affordable healthcare service delivery.
Governor Bago made the promise when he granted audience to development partners from the Global Alliance for Vaccine Immunisation (GAVI), World Heath Organization (WHO) and the United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF).
He said that farmers, political appointees and nomads deserved quality and affordable healthcare and would be registered through the Ministry of Nomadic and Pastorial Affairs while the different categories of civil servants and political appointees would not be left out in the scheme which has 250, 000 beneficiaries already enlisted.
The govrrnor also expressed preparedness of his administration to continue with child birth registration in line with the goals and objectives of the programmes by the UNICEF.

He further explained that the drone vaccine delivery project would be launched in 6 months time to enable the provisions of digital medicines to riverine communities and remote areas across Niger State.
The Chief of Child Protection UNICEF, Ibrahim Sesay, had earlier observed that birth registration programme was fundamental to every child, stressing, “that was why 100 percent birth registration was achieved last year, 2024, with the registration of over 400, 000 children under the age of five, while newborn children will be registered within the 2025 and given birth certificates and also be integrated with their respective National Identity Numbers (NIN).”
Also, the Chief of Health UNICEF Nigeria, Dr. Shyam Pathak, admitted that the three-year intervention programme in Niger Sate has helped to reduce child mortality and morbidity including enhanced access to quality health services to the vulnerable.
