Obi: To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls even when those bridges are uneasy
By Valentine Amanze
A chieftain of Nigeria’s latest opposition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has said that the coalition of the experienced politicians for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections was to save the country from total collapse.
Obi also disclosed that Senator David Mark and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola had already been picked as the party’s national chairman and national secretary, respectively.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), @PeterObi, the Anambra State former governor assured that the group was committed to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 general elections.
His words: “Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first.
“This decision was not made lightly. It comes from deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.”
Obi further disclosed that no one group could change Nigeria alone.

Responding to Obi’s statement, many Nigerians have expressed happiness over the development.
Nwabuisi S.O, who commended the emergence of the new opposition party via @SoloJah1, also called on the younger generation to join politics.
He stated: “But on another thought. Does it mean the youth can’t come up with a party, a “coalition” of their own and retire all these occupational politicians.”
