The Chief Executive Officer of the Owerri-based First Mahi Babes Football Club, Prince Chidiebere Onuoha, has called for upgrading and creation of board for both Championship and Premiership League in the country.
Speaking in Owerri shortly on arrival from the just concluded 2025 Annual General Meeting of Nigeria Women Football League Conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Onuoha said that such step would offer effective running and management of women league.
He said that the two leagues, which concern the women, should be run by separate bodies just as it is done in the men category of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
He said that the NPFL’s level in the country has NLO, NNL, NPFL, adding that the same be applied in the NWFL, as it will certainly improve the teams because of what he described as massive investment provided by the President of NFF.

Onuoha, while appreciating the NFF President, NFF Board and Managment for their commitment to improving the league, pointed out that the investment would only fund the Premiership and not the Championship.
He advised that Championship should as well have its own board/people that can also invest in the Championship the same way men category does its own games.
He said that under the arrangement, it could have about 50 clubs in Championship irrespective of how many teams that would qualify.
He said that at the last AGM on Nigerian Women Football held in Port Harcourt, no mention was made on the Championship throughout the meeting.
He regretted that Premiership League was the only issue discussed at the meeting, describing it as very discouraging to most of the club owners and participants at the event.
His words: “At the last concluded AGM nothing was discussed about Championship despite that it was boldly written on the banner of the programmm’’.
He welcomed the idea of NFF President that no girls between the ages of 15-17 years would be allowed to play, describing it as a good development.
He said that the idea would enable the Nigeria Woomen Footbal League to have lots of girls.
The CEO, however, condemned the idear of people lowering their ages, adding that such has, apart from negatively affecting the league, but are the reasons Nigerian football girls finds it difficult to play in CAF.
He equally attributed it to why Nigerians finds it difficult to get people from the Championship and Premiership to play World Cup.
According to Onuoha, the players are rather gotten from outside.
The CEO expressed satisfaction with the resent visit/inspection of club houses by the NFF President and some investors.
He said, “This is exactly how it is done overseas, adding that if the inspection would in the club hostels and units, Nigerian Clubs would be the best in the world.
On the Nigerian Women Football Club, Prince Chidie pointed out some of the indiscipline and corrupt activities going on among the girls in the camps.
He said that there was the need to make the girls become good until they become independent of their own.
