The Nigeria 2025 Game On Afrika Tournament has ended in Owerri with Team Enugu emerging champions of the competition.
Team Enugu defeated Team Imo 5–4 on penalties in a keenly contested final played at Okenalogho Secondary Technical School, Obowo at the weekend.
The match had ended 0–0 in regulation time which resulted to a penalty shootout.
Team Enugu will represent Nigeria in a continental encounter against the winner of the Ghana edition to determine the overall champion of the 2025 Game On Afrika Tournament.
In an interview with the Imo Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN, the CEO of Game on Afrika Tournament, Prince Emeka Nwankwo expressed satisfaction with the successful outing, adding that the tournament fulfilled a vision passed down by his father.

His words: “It was actually executing what my father told me. He said to me, ‘My son, I want you to do that which is permanent and voluntary that will enhance the society and also our family name in all respect.’ I think I have achieved all that today. I am very, very happy.”
He expressed optimism that Game On Afrika Tournament will continue to serve as a platform for grassroots football development across the continent, with teams in Nigeria and Ghana competing for regional honours.
He thanked the Project Manager, Lady Jenny Anusiem, and the coordinators who played vital roles in the smooth organization of the event which include Neville Okere (Imo), Felix Nwosu (Enugu), Femi Ajilore (FCT) and Dr. Abolore Abdul (Lagos).
He also acknowledged the contributions of media personnel, volunteers, and the participating clubs from Nigeria and Ghana.
The closing ceremony also featured individual recognitions for outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
Team Enugu’s goalkeeper, Orisakwe Chibuike Fortune, who remarkably hails from Njaba LGA of Imo State, clinched the Best Goalkeeper Award for his brilliant saves, including key stops during the game.
On the other hand, Team Imo’s standout midfielder, Sorochi Stanley Nwachukwu, was crowned Best Player of the Tournament, following his consistent dominance, creativity, and leadership on the pitch.
The final attracted several dignitaries from across Imo State and beyond. Among those in attendance were: Imo State Commissioner for Sports,
Hon Obinna Onyeocha represented by Marcel Obinna Nwachukwu, HRH Martins Keke, Oparanadim I, HRH Eze John Ifeanyichukwu Okafor, Oke I of Umuoke, represented by Deputy President General Meribe Micheal, Ugoeze Patrick Uwalaka among other community leaders and sports enthusiasts
