Abia-born politician wins Republican Party chairmanship in U.S. city

A Nigerian and Abia State-born politician, Mr. Yemi Arua Arunsi, has been elected as the chairman of the Republican Party in Davis County, United States (U.S.).

A former U.S. military officer, Arua won convincingly at the county’s convention, which was held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, to become the Republican Party’s new chairman of Davis County and the first Nigerian to hold the position in the county.

Arua, who hails from Nkporo in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, is the son of the state’s first House of Assembly Speaker, former House of Representatives member for Ohafia/Arochuchukwu Federal Constituency, and former Commissioner of Utility, Prince Arua Arunsi.
