Some football enthusiasts in Bauchi have expressed confidence that Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, would beat their opponents, Bafana Bafana of South Africa, at the semi-finals of the ongoing African Nations Cup (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire on Wednesday February 7, 2024.
They also assured that the stakes would be very high as both teams eye a place in the final of the 2023 AFCON.
Super Eagles crashed out the Antelopes of Angola on Friday February 2, 2024, with Ademola Lookman’s first-half goal to qualify for semi-final at the ongoing AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire.
Some of the football enthusiasts that spoke to Nigeria News Flight separately in Bauchi, were so optimistic that Super Eagles would make it to finals.

Abubakar Waziri, Sports commentator in Bauchi, said, “Super Eagle remain the only team to beat in the ongoing 2023 AFCON.
“Despite not scoring many goals, the team conceded only one goal. I have confidence that they would reach finals.
“Even on paper based on the current FIFA ranking, Nigeria is third in Africa and 36th in the world. The first and second are out of the competition.”
Jennifer Emmanuel, Sport Writer in Bauchi, expressed her satisfaction with the Super Eagles outing at the ongoing 2023 AFCON.
“I have already told some of our colleagues that Nigeria would play finals going by what I saw in most of the matches in Cote d’Ivoire.
“Let’s just continue praying for the Eagles to trash Bafana Bafana at the semi-finals on Wednesday and I am very sure they would make us proud,” she said.
On his part, Nasiru Ibrahim, a football fan, said that the last match with Angola was extremely beautiful.
“Nigeria performed admirably and deserved to win. The coach once more shows his tactical prowess as the first country to make it through to the semi-finals,” he said.
Also, former SWAN National Deputy President, Umar Saidu, appreciated God for giving the Super Eagles all the opportunities and the energy.
“We thank Almighty God that the better team won the game with Angola.
“It was a good match. In every competition four good teams are supposed to be at the semi-final stage and Super Eagles are one of them especially with their good performance against Angola,” he said.
