Bauchi: NGO records 150 cases of domestic violence 2022

A non-governmental organization (NGO), Attah Sisters Helping Hands Foundation (ASHHF), has said that it recorded 150 cases of different forms of domestic violence in Bauchi State this year (2022).

Its Executive Director (ED), Mrs Comfort Attah, who was represented by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr Kingsley Yallings,  disclosed this during a monthly meeting of the Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) management committee in Bauchi on Thursday.

Attah said that the foundation handled and treated 150 different cases of domestic violence in the state.

“The cases include 12 rape, 60  domeatic violence, 34 forceful  marriage, 28 neglects that bring to the total of 150 cases across the state in 2022,” he said.

He said that the sensitisation helped in tackling SGBV scourge and increased reporting in the state.

She further disclosed that ASHHF, supported by Actionaid, facilitated the Committee meetings, advocacy counseling, and support of victims across the state.

“With the SGBV management Committee girls and victims knowing their rights and where to report to, they now know that if they see something, they should say something.”
