Manchester United has been drawn to play New Castle United in the fourth round of this yearr’s (2023) Carabao Cup compettion following the crashing out of Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The defending champion, Manchester United, had on Tuesday, qualified by beating Crystal Palce 3-0 at Old Trafford, while New Castle struck Man City 1-0 on Wednesday.
Goals either side of half-time from Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial sealed a comfortable win for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Incidentally, Manchester United last season beat the Magpies in their final at Wembley.
The Reds, who face Palace again in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, also at Old Trafford, were in control of the contest from start to finish.
They were 2-0 up at the half-time interval and Martial’s smart finish 10 minutes after the restart put the outcome of the tie beyond doubt.

United has won the competition six times over their history. Casemiro and Marcus Rashford netted their goals in the showpiece last season, as Newcastle were gunned down beneath the famous arch. Before that, United picked up the trophy as part of a cup double under Jose Mourinho in 2017.

Manchester United winger, Antony, is set to meet with Greater Manchester police after returning from Brazil over claims of assault made by his former partner.
The Manchester United winger flew back from Brazil on Tuesday and the Manchester Evening News understands he will now meet with GMP officers and is willing to hand over his phone to the force to help them with their investigations.
The 23-year-old was free to leave Brazil after cooperating with enquiries being made by Sao Paulo police, but despite his return to Manchester he remains on leave from United to deal with the allegations.
