‘Amuneke and Finidi best qualified for Super Eagles’ job’

Nigeria’s ex-international and Super Eagles former handler, Mr. Samson Siasia, has denied applying for the current managerial vacant position in the national team.
Siasia, who made the clarefication in a Lagos-based radio station, Voice of the People (VOP), on Tuesday, said that he was not aware of the intention of the person, who applied for the job for him.
The former international explained that he was not qualified for the job because he was serving a five-year FIFA ban, which would end in August 2024.
Siasia also called for the employment of an indegeneous coach to takeover the job Jose Peseiro left behind, stressing, “No foreign manager has ever won the World Cup.”

On those who applied for the plum job currently, Siasia said that Emmanuel Amuneke and George Finidi were the most qualified, stressing that he would be eligible after his ban on August this year.

Siasia however appealed to the government and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to show interest in grassroots football development, through which he said most of them in the 1994 Nations Cup-winning Super Eagles were discovered.
He also called for the reintroduction of the Principals Cup football competition and strengthening of the national league in Nigeria via television coverage to produce new generation of footballers.
On the dearth of quality midfielders [No. 10] in the present Super Eagles team, Siasia said that they abound locally; only that the coaches were not looking inwards.
