The Mazi Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has welcomed the appeal by the Governor of Anambra State-Governor, Charles Soludo, to the Nigerian government for the unconditional release of its leader.

In a statement issued by the media spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB also clarified that Kanu was neither indicted nor had any charge pending against him before any law court.

As a result, it argued that the issue of granting bail or otherwise did not arise by any stretch of consideration or imagination, stressing, “It is the Federal Government that is today in breach of the order of superior court of competent jurisdiction.”

IPOB further stated that Kanu, who was discharged on October 13, 2022 by the Appeal Court did not have any need for surety, stressing, “There is no charge hanging on his neck at present.”

“We have gone beyond issue of surety or no surety, every genuine call/ demand in the prevailing circumstance should be  firmly directed at calling out on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately obey the order for the unconditional release of Onyendu made by its own court.

“May we also remind Governor Soludo and others that Onyendu’s [Kanu] current incarceration is not sanctioned by any law known to man. It is unconstitutional and affront to constitutional democracy and rule of law.

“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has no case to answer again.  Therefore, the need for surety does not arise. Governor Soludo should gear all his efforts towards persuading and compelling on the Nigeria government to obey its own law.”
