‘The so-called list is a disingenuous fabrication designed to achieve motives known only to the authors’

By Valentine Amanze

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied publishing the list of former governors under investigation for alleged corruption.

In a statement issued by Head, Media &  Publicity,

Dele Oyewale, at the weekend, the EFCC urged Nigerians to ignore the report, which featured in the media with the headline, “EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion.”

Though the EFCC did not disclose the news outfit, it however said that the report was false and mischievous as it neither issued the said list nor entertained discussions on investigation of ex-governors with any news medium.

“This invariably means that the so-called list is a disingenuous fabrication designed to achieve motives known only to the authors,” it said.

The EFCC also enjoined the public to ignore the report, describing it as false and misleading.

It appealed to the media to crosscheck facts on matters under investigation with the Commission to avoid misleading the public with false and inaccurate reports.
