Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed the death of 207 people in the flood that devastated communities in Mokwa, Mokwa Local Government Area of the state in June 2025.
NSEMA Director General (DG), Mallam Abdullahi Baba Arah, who disclosed this in Minna, pointed out that the search for more bodies continus.
Addressing newsmen for the first time after series of disasters that claimed over 400 lives, including the Agaie and Dikko junction fuel tanker explosion, Arah however said that efforts were being made by the agency to mitigate the multiple disasters of tanker explosions to avoid a repeat.
He lamented that Niger State in quick succession witnessed disasters of high magnitude in Agaie and Dikko, armed bandits attack and the most recent of all, Mokwa flooding.

Arah who could not ascertain the exact number of missing persons, said that about 500 (five hundred) persons sustained various degrees of injuries during the rampaging flood.
“We have not been able to get the exact number of missing persons, even today (Tuesday) some of our officials departed Minna for Mokwa in continuation of their relentless work in managing disaster which included data collection for future reference purposes,” he said.
He further disclosed that the sum of five hundred thousand (N500, 000) was given to each person to rent accommodation aside food items that were shared to ameliorate their hardship.
