‘The action taken by Nigeria and ECOWAS is further pushing Nigeriens to rally round their military government’

A social crusader and former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has carpeted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for cutting electricity supplies to Niger Republic.
Sani said that the measure, meant to restore power to the democratically elected government in Niger by Tinubu and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), was hitting hard on the social life of the land-lucked country.
He tweeted on Friday that the electricity cut has crippled hospitals, schools, homes and offices in Niger Republic.

His words: “Cutting off electricity supplies to Niger Republic is affecting their hospitals, schools, homes and offices.
“This is not putting pressure on the military junta but punishing the masses of that country and creating resentment against our country.
“The action taken by Nigeria and ECOWAS is further pushing Nigeriens to rally round their military government.
“France, ECOWAS and Nigeria are pushing them to learn to live without dependence.”
But Sani’s views have been faulted by JA @peris_ja.
He asked Sani: “Do you expect ECOWAS to be dilly-dallying with a junta that is not ready for a negotiation? No. The supporters supporting the junta should feel the pain as well.
“When sanctions bite hard, the supporters will turn against the junta.”

“Nigerian households are reporting a 25% increase in electricity supply.”
