Niger State government has set up isolation and treatment centres to curb cholera outbreak, which has claimed no fewer than 13 lives in the state.
It also disclosed that about 236 people are battling for their lives in six out of the 25 councils of the state.
The outbreak of the disease was first reported in Shiroro Local Government Area on Sunday in Shiroro LGA and later discovered in other parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Primary Healthcare Centre (PHCs), Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Dangana, who confirmed the outbreak, explained that setting up the centres,was the state government immediate steps to avert the spread.

His words: “We have set up treatment and isolation centres to mitigate and also embark on aggressive sensitization exercises beyond the six councils where the disease was first noticed.
“The campaign is now targeting religious bodies like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Islamic religious bodies and across the eight Emirates Councils in the state”.
Dangana, while commending Governor Mohammed Umar Bago for his commitments towards safeguarding lives and properties of citizenry, also expressed appreciation to all the donor agencies for coming to the aid of the state.
Meanwhile, hours after reported cases of cholera in six out the 25 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Niger state, the number of victims have risen to 279 as at Thursday.
This is coming as the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) promised to donate essential commodities to the affected LGAs to stop the spread of the disease to other areas.
The UNICEF Chief of Kaduna Field Office, Dr. Gerida Birukila, disclosed this to journalists after inspecting the isolation centre at the old wing of the late Senator Idris Ibrahim Kuta Primary Health Care (PHC) centre along old airport road Minna.
Though the center had been in existence, Birukila said that the UNICEF in beefing up the facility situated right inside the heart of Minna metropolis to meet expected standards and demands for cholera treatment.
