Niger State government has concluded plans to make Degree the minimum qualifications for teachers in secondary schools across the state.
This is part of restructuring and revamping the education sector in the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Mohammed, disclosed this during the post-exco media briefing in Minna.
She explained that part of the new order was the commencement of Earlier Child Care Development Education (ECCDE) aimed at restructuring community-based teachers for effective and efficient services delivery.
On the hardship confronting parents and guardians in the state, the commissioner assured that the state government would commence provision of transportation, uniforms, and as well offer scholarships for certain categories of students in the state.

She also told journalists that starting from next academic session, the state government would commemce the implementation of the re-modelled education system, which entails theoretical academic activities ending on Thursday, while Fridays would now be for Skills Acquisition.
“The purpose for the Fridays being set aside for skills acquisition is to train the students early enough on how to be self-reliant, creating jobs for themselves to reduce dependence on non-existing white collar jobs after graduation,” she said.
Meanwhile, Niger State government has approved immediate recruitment of 1, 000 health workers and automatic replacement of all retired health workers at the local and state levels to fill noticeable deficits across all health facilities.
