CNG: The present day leaders only succeeded in widening the gap of distrust among the over 250 Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities and political divides by creating enemies than friends across Nigeria’s religious, regional and tribal divides

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has accused Nigerian leaders and their northern counterpart of fuelling the socio-economic and the insecurity bedeviling the country.
CNG also accused them of completely deviating from the dreams of the nation’s founding fathers.
Besides, the group argued that the present day leaders only succeeded in widening the gap of distrust among the over 250 Nigeria’s ethnic nationalities and political divides by creating enemies than friends across Nigeria’s religious, regional and tribal divides.
“Unfortunately, not many people know what Sir Ahmadu Bello, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo stood and fought for including those in leadership positions will understand that the present day leaders have strayed from the foundation laid by those who fought for Nigeria’s independence,” the National Coordinator of CNG, Jamilu Charanchi, said.
Charanchi, made the declaration at a one-day community engagement programme in Minna, the Niger State capital.
He argued that if the founding fathers could view what is left of Nigeria they made so much sacrifice for her independence over 63 years ago, they would indeed feel deeply disappointed by its current state.
Charanchi also attributed the troubles facing northern Nigeria to the absence of selfless leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello.

“So much is missing from the present day crop of leaders. They lacked accountability and always out pursuing primordial values against collective dreams and aspirations of most Nigerians.
“Northern Nigeria, with its 19 states, is contending with severe challenges in education, security, and socio-economic development,” Charanchi said.
He further disclosed that it was in response to calls for citizens to hold leaders accountable that the CNG organized the community-focused event with the theme, “The Imperative of Popular Participation in Tackling Socio-Economic Challenges Bedevilling Northern Nigeria Through Community-Driven Solutions.”
Our correspondent reports that the discussants including Bashir Nuhu and Sanusi Erena, the Secretary of JNI Niger State, who contributed immensely to discussions on how to regain the nation’s lost glory, northern Nigeria in particular.
