‘We are taking steps to ensure that some of the contentious issues are amicably addressed in the best interest of both parties’

Niger State government has invited the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in the state
for a fresh dialogue to end the industrial strike which commenced on February 21, 2024.
This is coming on the heels of the organized labour’s denial of reaching a truce with the state government and resolved the dispute on their welfare package.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, stated in Minna on Wednesday February 21, 2024 that the Governor Mohammed Umar Bago-led administration had enjoyed cordial working relationship with the organised labour and would want that to continue.

He assured that the government would resolve the dispute with the NLC soon.
His words: “We are taking steps to ensure that some of the contentious issues are amicably addressed in the best interest of both parties.
“In furtherance of this understanding, Niger State government today Tuesday 20th February, 2024 invited organized labour to a meeting by 2pm and hopes to receive its cooperation in this regard.”
Meanwhile, the organised labour has denied holding a meeting with government representatives yesterday as part of efforts to resolve the impasse.
Though the outcome of the meeting with the Speaker of Niger State House of Assembly who waded in was not known as at the time of this report, the Speaker’s intervention is said to have yielded little or no results as the organised labour proceeded with the strike.
