Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, has tasked opinion leaders across the state to support his efforts by empowering youths in their communities instead of using them as thugs.
Nwifuru said that youth empowerment would enable them contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the state.
The governor made the appeal during the 2024 New Yam Festival of Ezza which held at Okpoku Ezekuna in Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
“Instead of encouraging our youths to embark on smoking and drinking alcohol, it better we use the money and empower them significantly by giving them the money they can use to start up a good business which might positively change their economic status.

“Very soon, I will embark on each one hundred youths, one million naira across the 13 local government areas of the state,” he said.
Nwifuru therefore called on the youths to continue to uphold the culture of the land.
