NYG: 102 man-contingent to represent Niger in Delta

‘The essence of going to the NYG is not just to participate in sports and win medals, but to inculcate discipline and the acts of leadership in our athletes’

By Mohammed Usman

A 102 man-contingent, including 80 athletes and 22 officials, is representing Niger State at the ongoing seventh edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) in Delta State.

The 10-day event, which kicked off on September 20, 2023, is being hosted by Delta State government.

The Director of Sports, Niger State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Baba Sheshi, confirmed yesterday that the athletes were already at Delta State capital, Asaba, venue for the national sporting fiesta.

Sheshi however advised the athletes and officials to be good ambassadors of the state and win medals for Niger State.

He also urged the contingent not to disappoint the state; but justify the money invested in them.

His words: “The essence of going to the NYG is not just to participate in sports and win medals, but to inculcate discipline and the acts of leadership in our athletes.

“If you are not a disciplined athlete or fail to adhere to the rules of the games, you will not win medals. This is the only way not only to get the best and win medals, but to top the medals table.”
