Say, ‘No life was lost to gunmen’

Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed sporadic shootings in three markets in different parts of the state, stating that no life was lost in the shootouts.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the police explained that the gumen invaded Ahiaofu market along Enugu – Abakaliki highway, Ishieke and Akaeze markets, respectively, where they were engaged in a gun battle by the Police Tactical  and Patrol teams before they escaped.

SP Onome further stated that no life was lost throughout the attacks in various markets.

The police stated: `The Ebonyi State Commissioner Of Police, CP Faleye S. Olaleye’s psc attention has been drawn to a viral video of suspected IPOB/ESN members trying to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order in Isheke and other markets in the state today,  04/07/2023 at about 11:30hrs.

“The hoodlums who went to Ahiaofu road, along Enugu – Abakaliki highway, Ishieke and Akaeze markets and started shooting sporadically were engaged in a shootout by Police tactical and patrol teams before they escaped.

“No life was lost either on the part of the police or the civil populace. Intensive manhunt is ongoing to apprehend and bring them to justice.

Consequently, the Commissioner Of Police in Ebonyi State is using this medium to appeal to the members of the public to remain calm, oblige the police with useful information and go about their lawful activities, as maximum security measures have been emplaced, including intensive motorized patrol of the nooks and crannies of the state to halt their activities.”
